Medica Packaging Adds Horizon Digital Folder
Medica Packaging, the specialist healthcare packaging supplier has announced the installation of a new leaflet folder for the post-press department of its Crewe factory.
The new machine is the first supplied to Medica by Horizon. The Horizon AF406T6A Digital Folder joins a bank of similar equipment in the patient information leaflet (PIL) folding area of finishing at Medica. The equipment is focused on “intelligent automation” and provides significant flexibility with a six-plus-six buckle fold configuration.
Commenting on the latest addition, Tim Standing, Operations Manager at Medica Packaging, said: “The purchase of the AF406T6A creates extra capacity giving our sales force an excellent opportunity to increase our current leaflet production business, and creating further opportunities within the market. We believe this folding technology will be the future within the pharmaceutical leaflet sector. The product will also help to support the continued development of our workforce, where we endeavour to provide the best machinery for them to do their job.
“Recognizing digital as the way forward we looked for a machine that was proven within our sector. The AF406T6A fitted the brief perfectly. The machine could accommodate the wide variety of sizes going from standard to miniature, with a super quick change-over time when moving from job to job. We found other suppliers of digital equipment struggled to compete in this area. We trialled the equipment at the showroom in Germany and the results were excellent. The flexibility offered by this configuration will allow us to offer new and exciting folding options to our customer and prospects.”
A graphical colour touch screen interface provides for both efficient operation and fast operator training. The advanced and accurate automation capabilities of the machine provides for short make-ready times and reduced paper waste and energy consumption. Steel and polyurethane combination rollers are employed to provide for easy adjustment of the roller gap pressure. Folds as small as 20mm can be achieved.
